What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a virtually invisible orthodontic treatment. It uses a revolutionary approach to effectively straighten teeth. Using its SmartForce Technology, Invisalign creates a series of custom-made removable aligners. They are crafted uniquely for your smile needs.
What are the aligners made of?
The aligners are made of nearly transparent plastic. You wear them over your teeth to gradually shift them to the optimal position.
Will others know I’m wearing the aligners?
No, the majority of people won’t notice you’re wearing them. This feature is appreciated by adults. That’s because they may feel self-conscious about wearing traditional braces.
How do I get Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment is available through Invisalign-trained dentists such as Dr. Meng Quah-Shepherd (Dentist). She can determine the ideal treatment plan for you.
What are the advantages of Invisalign?
In addition to being nearly invisible, here are some other benefits of this aligner system:
- Enjoy greater comfort: There are no metal brackets to irritate your gums or the inside of your mouth. Therefore, your orthodontic treatment with Invisalign will be comfortable.
- Maintain oral hygiene: Because Invisalign aligners are removable, you can easily brush and floss your teeth. You can maintain your oral health throughout your treatment.
- Have fewer visits to see the dentist: In most cases, Invisalign treatment typically requires fewer dentist visits than some types of braces.
- Visualise the progressive movement: Invisalign treatment allows you to get a look each stage of the treatment process from start to finish.
How does treatment work?
Once you and Dr Meng Quah-Shepherd (Dentist) agree that Invisalign treatment is ideal for you, she will take photos, X-rays and either impressions or a scan of your teeth. From these records, a 3D treatment plan will be created. This plan is called the ClinCheck® treatment plan. It’s used to design the custom-made Invisalign aligners.
Your custom-made Invisalign aligners then will be crafted and shipped to Dr Meng. She then will give you a series of aligners, typically 3 to 4 sets at one time. You will replace each one about every 1-2 weeks until the final position of your teeth is reached. Dr Meng will give you the complete details of the treatment plan.
How many hours a day do I need to wear the aligners?
You will need to wear each set for at least 20 hours per day for two weeks. When you change the set out every two weeks, your teeth are nudged closer to the desired position.
How often do I need to visit Dr Meng?
Every 4-6 weeks.
How long does treatment take?
The treatment time with Invisalign is generally shorter than with traditional metal braces. On average, it takes 12-18 months to complete.
Will wearing the aligners affect my speech?
When you start wearing Invisalign, you may have a slight lisp when you speak. With a bit of practice speaking out loud, you will start to notice an improvement. It won’t take long until your speech returns to normal.
Can you provide me with a quote over the phone?
No. That’s because we need to evaluate you initially to determine if you will need a lengthier treatment time.
