IV Sedation in Chatswood

oral procedureIf you’ve put off getting dental care because it makes you feel apprehensive, you’re not alone. Perhaps you had a negative experience in childhood or didn’t like the sound of the dental drill. With our IV sedation dentistry, you can enjoy a comfortable and relaxing dental experience.

What Is IV Sedation?

This type of sedation dentistry is administered through the hand or arm. It combines chemicals that work together to promote a state of deep relaxation with no recall of the treatment. It’s our experience that many patients prefer this type of sedation because they won’t have any memory of their treatment.

Feel at Ease with Sleep Dentistry

One of the most significant benefits of IV Sedation is that it allows you to have a relaxed and positive dental experience. Though it’s often called sleep dentistry, you are not asleep. Instead, you will feel drowsy with a pleasant feeling of deep relaxation. You won’t feel nervous at all. Many patients report they do not recall the treatment at all and that they thought only a short period had passed.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Rest assured that we will always prepare you for your dental treatment. We recommend the following:

  • Don’t eat or drink anything for at least six hours prior to your appointment
  • Arrange to have someone drive you home after treatment, as you won’t be able to drive
  • Plan to rest and give yourself 24 hours to recover fully

If you have any questions or concerns about IV sedation or our other options, Dr Meng Quah-Shepherd (Dentist) will be happy to address them.

1. How long will I be sedated?

Depending on each patient’s specific needs and treatment plan, an IV sedation procedure may last anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

2. Is it safe?

Yes; The sedation procedure will be medically supervised by a qualified doctor.

3. Does the dentist still have to give me injections in the mouth?

Local anesthetic injections still may be needed. The big difference is you won’t feel the needle.

4. Will I experience any side effects?

Every person will react differently to the sedation. You may experience a headache, nausea, lethargy and have little to no memory of your procedure.

5. Can I drive home?

No. Your should not drive or operate any tools or machinery for next 24 hours.
